Superintendent Search Committee

Citizen-at-Large selection

Get involved in the Superintendent Search!

The Concord School Committee and the Concord Carlisle Regional School Committee have asked the LWVCC to select a Citizen-at-Large (CAL) to represent the community on the Superintendent Screening Committee. The role of the Superintendent Screening Committee is to interview the final candidates, selected by the consulting firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), and narrow the field to 2-3 finalists. The two school committees will then select the Superintendent.

The LWVCC Board has created a two-stage process for selecting a Citizen-at-Large (and an alternate) in which League members may participate by serving on the selection committee or applying to be the Citizen-at-Large. If the member serves on the League Selection Committee she/he cannot apply for the Citizen-at-Large position. The two-stage process is:

1. League Selection Committee (LSC) Five members of the LWVCC will be chosen to serve on a League Selection Committee, which will review all citizen applications, conduct interviews, and recommend a finalist and one alternate. A training session will precede the League Selection Committee's deliberations. The LSC will be announced on October 10th. If you are interested, please submit your reasons for wishing to serve to Diane Proctor (dpdproctor@gmail.com) by Friday, October 7th, 2016.

2. The Citizen-at-Large (and alternate): The Citizen-at-Large will be selected by the LSC, who will review written applications and conduct interviews of the applicants. The LSC will present their recommendations to the LWVCC Board and the Concord Public School Committee and Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committees by November 15, 2016.

Anyone applying to serve as the Citizen-at-Large must be available for the training and interviewing sessions tentatively scheduled for January 18-20, 2017. More information will be available in early October.

For membership on either committee, the following criteria will apply:

  • possess some knowledge of the Concord- K-8 and Concord-Carlisle Regional school systems
  • possess knowledge of, or familiarity with the towns of Concord and/or Carlisle
  • possess a willingness to exercise an open perspective and work collaboratively

Preference will be given to those not otherwise integrally involved in the Superintendent search process.
