2018 Concord Town Election

What do you mean, Town Elections? When and where do I vote? Is it too late to register to vote? What am I voting on? What are the office terms and vacancies? How are the candidates selected? How many Concordians voted in the last Town Election? What are the issues and where do the candidates stand?

Okay, okay, take it easy. Let's do this one step at a time. Learn, and then go vote.

When is Town Election? Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Polls are open 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

Where do I vote? There are 4 polling places for the 5 precincts:

  • Concord Planning Dept., 141 Keyes Road, Concord (Precinct 1)
  • Harvey Wheeler Community Center, 1276 Main Street, Concord (Precincts 2 and 3)
  • Ripley School, 120 Meriam Road, Concord (Precinct 4)
  • Hunt Gym, 90 Stow Street, Concord (Precinct 5) Check your polling place, registration status and more information on the Town's website for Elections and Voting: http://www.concordma.gov/375/Elections-Voting

Is it too late to register to vote? The voter registration deadline for 2018 Town Election is Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Register at the Clerk's Office, Concord Town House, 22 Monument Square, Concord or on-line at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/

What am I voting on? Voters will cast their ballots for the offices of Town Moderator, Select Board, School Committee, and Concord Housing Authority. There are no Questions for this Town Election.

What are the office terms and how many vacancies are open? Here are the office terms and vacancies:

  • Town Moderator(1-year term) 1 Vacancy
  • Select Board (3-year term) 2 Vacancies
  • School Committee (3-year term) 2 Vacancies
  • Concord Housing Authority (5-year term) 1 Vacancy

How are the candidates selected? Every year, the Town holds its Caucus, where registered voters nominate and select candidates for Town offices. The caucus for 2018 Town Election is Monday, January 29, 7:30 p.m. at the Town House, 22 Monument Square, Concord. The snow day is January 30. You can also write-in a candidate on the ballot.

How many Concordians voted in the last Town Election? Turnout at Town Election is usually very small, given the number of registered voters. The 2017 Concord Town Election saw 13,052 registered voters, yet only 475 (3.64%) voted. THIS MEANS YOUR VOTE IN TOWN ELECTION REALLY COUNTS.

What are the issues and where do the Candidates stand? This information will be presented in the Concord Journal, on candidates' websites, and other media outlets as the Town Election date draws near. Pay attention and learn. An informed voter is an effective voter.
